Our last Read Aloud guest was Janet Jackson, President and CEO of United Way of Central Ohio. Jackson read A Nation’s Hope: The Story of Boxing Legend Joe Louis written by Matt de le Pena and illustrated by Kadir Nelson.

Jackson wanted to share this story with our scholars because, “Joe had a goal, and he didn’t let ayone deter him from that goal and he overcame it.” Jackson further explains how, “I want the kids to grow up to reach their potential and goals.”
While this was Jackson’s first time at a Freedom School, she is very familiar with the program and considers the founder Marian Wright Edelman as, “one of my personal sheroes.”
All People CDF Freedom Schools would like to thank United Way of Central Ohio for all of their support.

Anthony Trotman, director of Franklin County Department of Jobs and Family Services, read Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr Seuss on Thursday to our scholars. Trotman viewed Freedom Schools as, “a great environment for learning… These kids were engaged and listening as well as asking a lot of good questions.”
